The ancient and largely unchanged land of Sicily finds pure expression in the wines of Baglio Gibellina. The name ‘Baglio’ refers to the estate’s original courtyard, once enclosed by warehouses used for grape collection and vinification. Today, the estate dominates its valley location between the hills of Salemi and Santa Ninfa, where rolling vineyards are punctuated by broom and prickly pear. Old vines planted at 300–600 metres on clay and volcanic soils yield wines of authentic character, charm, and easy-drinking appeal. Viticulture The fruit comes from old hillside vineyards planted 300–600 metres above sea level, trained with the Guyot system. Clay-rich soils and limited yields per hectare ensure concentration and structure in the final wine. Winemaking The blend brings together two classic Sicilian grapes. Frappato is harvested at full maturity to preserve its trademark freshness and fermented slowly in small stainless steel tanks. Nero d’Avola, by contrast, is left longer on the vine to undergo natural dehydration before being carefully hand-harvested into wooden crates. After soft pressing, the must is fermented at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is deliberately interrupted by cooling the tanks, locking in natural sweetness. The finished wine is matured in steel to retain vibrancy and purity. Tasting profile A bright, expressive nose of intense red fruits and wild berries. The palate is warm, full-bodied, and smooth, supported by harmonious acidity and elegant tannins. Food pairings Perfect with pasta dishes and mild cheeses, where its freshness and supple texture shine.
