Methodology

About BottlePicker

BottlePicker is an alcoholic-drink price and retailer comparison organised into separate sections for the United Kingdom, United States, France, Germany and Australia.

Country separation

Every market has its own URL namespace, shopping locale, merchant registry and currency filter. UK results use en_GB and GBP; US results use en_US and USD; France uses fr_FR and EUR; Germany uses de_DE and EUR; Australia uses en_AU and AUD. Offers in another currency are rejected rather than converted or mixed into the comparison.

Merchant tracking status

The registry currently contains 42 merchant profiles across the five markets. 12 are marked as active feeds; 30 are configured or paused profiles and are not described as currently harvested. Each profile can store source type, automation level, category scope, delivery method, geographic coverage and legal-age requirements. US delivery areas can be recorded at state or ZIP-code level rather than assuming national availability.

Collection methods

The generic tracker supports Shopify product JSON, XML sitemaps with Product JSON-LD, merchant-filtered shopping-provider discovery, and custom or manual adapters. Every collection run can be logged with its market, source, status, record count and error detail. Historical offers remain in the database; current country aggregates use only in-stock records in the matching currency.

Product scope

The product model covers wine, whisky and whiskey, gin, rum, vodka, tequila and mezcal, brandy and cognac, liqueurs and aperitifs, beer, cider and perry, mead, sake, and ready-to-drink cocktails. Non-alcoholic products, accessories, mixers, events and gift-only listings are excluded where they can be identified reliably.

Tracked and live results

The catalogue currently has 10,691 distinct products with tracked stock and 10,737 current tracked listings. Live shopping results are fetched on demand and displayed separately. They do not alter tracked catalogue totals, retailer feed status, price history or structured product offers.

Vineyard and producer data

The structured vineyard layer currently contains 12 vineyard or named-parcel records supported by 12 source records. It can store site boundaries and coordinates, appellation, area, elevation, aspect, slope, soils, geology, grape varieties, rootstocks, clones or selections, planting history, density, training, row orientation, irrigation, farming, certifications and harvest method. Product-to-vineyard links carry a relationship type, confidence value, notes and optional percentage. Links are conservative: a producer or regional name alone is not treated as proof that a wine came from a specific site.

Prices and product identity

Exact GTIN matching is preferred when a barcode is available. Text fallback uses product name, brand, vintage and container size checks. Pack prices are retained as checkout prices and may also show a calculated per-unit amount. The retailer remains authoritative for identity, pack size, taxes, duties, delivery, stock, legal purchasing requirements and final checkout price.

Responsible use

BottlePicker is intended for adults legally permitted to buy alcohol in their location. It does not sell alcohol directly.
