Cartuxa Colheita Tinto is a distinguished red wine from the Alentejo sub-region of Évora, crafted on the historic Quinta de Valbom estate, where vineyards have been tended since 1517. The winery is owned by the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, a privately funded charity established in 1963. Named after the Cartuxa Monastery, the wine honours the Carthusian monks who lived in the region from 1598. Cartuxa Colheita Tinto is a blend of Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, and Trincadeira, combining traditional Alentejo grape varieties with meticulous vineyard and winemaking practices. Meet the Producer Cartuxa, under the Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, is renowned for producing wines that reflect both the heritage and terroir of Évora. The estate balances historical significance with modern winemaking techniques, creating wines of depth, elegance, and precision. Production Grapes are carefully hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, then de-stemmed and gently crushed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, followed by an extended maceration period to extract colour, flavour, and structure. The wine matures for 12 months in a combination of vats and barrels and is then aged for a further 9 months in bottle before release, ensuring harmony and complexity. Tasting Notes Cartuxa Colheita Tinto displays a deep ruby colour, reflecting its concentration and structure. The nose is elegant and aromatic, with notes of black plum, crushed black cherry, forest fruits, and subtle violet undertones. On the palate, rich black and red berry flavours are complemented by hints of marzipan, fine tannins, and a textured, fleshy structure. The wine balances freshness with substance, resulting in a refined and expressive expression of Alentejo terroir. Food Match Serve between 16º and 18ºC. Pairs beautifully with roast beef, lamb, or other red meat dishes, as well as mature cheeses and hearty autumnal fare. Grape Alicante Bouschet, Aragonez, Trincadeira
