Cellar for up to 2 years. Serve chilled. This classic Stellenbosch Chenin Blanc gets its unusual name from Louis Albert Péringuey who was the Inspector-General of the Cape’s vineyards during the 19th century. His important work included leading the fight against phylloxera which devastated thousands of acres of vines all over the world and decimated the global wine industry. Péringuey is remembered by this bottling for his assistance with the importation of American rootstock to South Africa which allowed many local winemakers to save their business by planting these phylloxera-resistant vines. To create a perfectly balanced wine, the Jordan family grow the grapes for this bottling on their cooler south and east-facing sites which helps to preserve freshness and aromatics in the finished wine. Following the harvest 70% of the wine is fermented in barrels and aged on the lees for seven months, while the remainder is fermented in stainless steel tanks. The result is a clean, fresh expression of Chenin Blanc which is delicately seasoned with hints of cream and butter from the barrel fermentation and lees ageing. On the nose there are enticing hints of lemon zest, apricots, and fresh pastries, while the palate offers a soft texture, medium body, and sweet tropical fruit character.
