Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant, but best to open it an hour before service. Founded by Dato Gagua and Shalva Sikharulidze, Labara Winery is located in Georgia's Imereti wine region. The estate covers approximately 12 hectares of vineyards, spread across western Georgia, in Vartsikhe and Salkhino, where Dato and Shalva grow native grape varieties such as Otskhanuri Sapere, Tsolikouri, Tsitska, Krakhuna, Aladasturi, Ojaleshi, and Dzelshavi. In this area rich in winemaking history, the subtropical climate creates the perfect environment for ensuring full ripening of the grapes and achieving good balance in the wines. The Otskhanuri Sapere grapes, a relatively rare native Georgian grape variety, are carefully sourced from sustainable vineyards. After manual harvesting and fermentation in qvevri (terracotta jars traditionally used in Georgian winemaking) on the skins, the finished wine rests in qvevri for 12 months. The result is an exceptional, one-of-a-kind wine. In the glass, Labara Otskhanuri Sapere reveals a deep, dark garnet color with purple highlights. Its aromatic profile is intense and mature, with notes of blueberry, black cherry, and raisin, followed by earthy nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich, energetic and juicy, with a long, fruity finish. Leave it in the cellar for a few years or enjoy it now with herb-roasted chicken or pheasant stew.
