A “Vins de Vila” wine, it showcases both the power and finesse that make Priorat one of Spain’s most prestigious red wine appellations. Meet the producer Merum Priorati is one of Priorat’s most important estates, founded in 2004 by two Catalan families. With vineyards spread across the rugged hillsides of Porrera, El Molar and La Morera de Montsant, the winery is dedicated to sustainable viticulture and the production of high-quality wines that reflect the terroir. Today, Merum Priorati is recognised for crafting wines of authenticity, elegance and balance, rooted firmly in the essence of Priorat. Production The grapes are sourced from a combination of premium vineyard sites at altitudes between 100–700m, including both ancient bush vines and carefully managed newer plantings. The dominant variety is Garnacha, complemented by Carinena, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Grapes are hand-harvested, then fermented in small 1.5t open-top fermenters, with daily hand plunging to extract flavour and colour. Each vineyard parcel is vinified and matured separately in used 225L French oak barrels for 12 months before blending, ensuring both complexity and balance. Tasting notes Deeply aromatic with black cherry, liquorice and subtle toasty oak on the nose. The palate is rich and layered, offering ripe plum, vanilla and rosemary with hints of mineral spice from the llicorella soils. The tannins are powerful yet beautifully integrated, leading to a long finish with notes of leather and warm spice. A wine of structure, elegance and real personality.
