Mezena is a fresh, lightly sparkling Vinho Verde from Calcada Wines, one of the oldest and most respected producers in the region. Founded in 1917 in Amarante and now in its third generation, Calcada Wines has been crafting still and sparkling whites from the Vinho Verde DOC for over a century. Mezena is their entry-level expression, pale, tropical, and effortlessly refreshing, with a vivid acidity and a very low 8.5% ABV. Vineyard & Production Sourced from vineyards in the Amarante sub-region of the Vinho Verde DOC, approximately 10 minutes from the entrance to the Douro region. The soils are granite with some shale, and the Atlantic influence produces wines of marked minerality, high freshness, and great gastronomic potential. Grapes are hand-selected at optimal ripeness, de-stemmed, and lightly pressed. The juice is decanted by gravity before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats over two weeks. The wine is filtered and stabilised before bottling. Tasting Notes Pale yellow in colour with a light natural effervescence. The nose offers tropical and citrus aromas with a fresh, mineral lift. On the palate, it is lively and clean with vivid acidity and a pleasant, versatile finish. Best served well chilled.
