Cellar for up to 10 years. Serve chilled. Striking a careful balance between tradition and modernity, Philippe Colin’s superb domaine was founded in 2004 following a mutual decision with his brother to split from Colin-Deleger and seek their own individual directions. Philippe’s 11.5 hectares includes some exceptional Chassagne Premier Cru plots and some prized St. Aubin as well. Like the man himself who is reserved but incredibly talented, the domaine’s wines are renowned for their subtlety and grace with genuine purity of flavour and a distinctive minerality. Wherever possible he practices minimal intervention, allowing the natural character of the terroir and the grape variety to shine through in his masterful bottlings. Philippe’s Chassagne Montrachet opens with a fragrant nose full of white peach, honeysuckle and lemon zest underscored by gentle hints of vanilla and hazelnuts from the barrel maturation. The palate offers a voluptuous flavour profile with plenty of ripe stone fruit tempered by a fresh acidity and seasoned with toasted nuts. The fruit for this wine is sourced from prime 35-45 year old vineyards just below Chassagne’s Premier Cru plots and ages in French oak barrels for 11 months with regular lees stirring to add complexity and a creamy, full texture.
