Located in Austria, Weingut Prager is a long-established winery run by Ilse Prager and her husband, Toni Bodenstein, since 1990. The estate includes some of the most renowned vineyards in the Wachau region, spread across the steep terraces of Weissenkirchen and planted with Riesling and Gruner Veltliner. Prager wines are internationally renowned for their exceptional quality and for being a pure expression of their terroir. Considered one of the region's most coveted and greatest Rieslings, Ried Achleiten Riesling Smaragd is made with grapes from the legendary terraced vineyard of Achleiten. Here, the sterile gneiss and slate soils and the cool microclimate create ideal conditions for producing wines of great longevity. In the glass, the wine reveals a brilliant straw-yellow color with greenish highlights. Its aromatic profile is broad, complex, and intoxicating, with intricate notes of lime, peach, apricot, and apple, along with herbaceous and mineral hinys. On the palate, it is fresh, pure, and mineral. It has a creamy texture and a pronounced acidic backbone. The finish is long, citrusy, and refreshing. Keep it in the cellar for a few years, or enjoy it now with oysters, Japanese ramen, or other spicy Asian recipes.
