Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Founded in the early 2000s by Andrew Donaldson, Akitu is a New Zealand winery located on the South Island, near Wānaka, in the Central Otago wine region. The vineyards cover approximately 12 hectares, located on a slope approximately 380 meters above sea level, and are planted with Pinot Noir. The A2 Pinot Noir is a blend of clones 777, 667, and 115. After harvesting and transporting to the cellar, 35% of the grapes are pressed as whole bunches. After vinification, the finished wine is aged in French oak (93% used). In the glass, the wine reveals a dark, intense garnet color with crimson highlights. Its aromatic profile is rich and broad, with notes of cherry and ripe raspberry, alternating with spicy hints of cinnamon, thyme, rose petals, and violet, on a licorice background. On the palate, it is lively and deep, concentrated, and fruity. It has a soft, velvety texture with smooth tannins and a subtle, refreshing acidity. It is youthful and lively, with a long, fruity finish. Try it with duck à l'orange, confit duck legs, or roast partridge.
