Drink it now or cellar for up to 8 years. No need to decant. Located near Motovun, Croatia, Fakin is a winery with a long family tradition. Commercial wine production, however, only began in 2010, and since then, the company, led by Marko Fakin, has achieved great popularity and critical acclaim. The Yellow Muscat (Žuti in Croatian) grapes come from company vineyards planted between 1994 and 2016. This grape variety, part of the large Muscat family, is mainly grown in northeastern Italy and the Istrian peninsula, where it finds the ideal climate to best express itself and is primarily used in the production of sweet or semi-sweet wines. After manual harvesting and a brief maceration of a few hours, fermentation takes place in stainless steel and is interrupted prematurely by cooling. The finished wine then ages for 6 months in stainless steel. The winemaking techniques guarantee the production of a semi-sweet, fresh, and fragrant wine, a pure expression of the grape variety. In the glass, the wine reveals a splendid golden color. Its aromatic profile is broad and layered, with fruity notes of citrus, melon, and apricot interspersed with hints of elderflower and a touch of honey. On the palate, it has a pleasantly balanced sweetness. It is fresh and mineral, fruity and complex, with a light body and lively acidity. The finish is long and persistent, recalling light honeyed notes. In food pairings, it’s a great jolly: try it with apricot tart, blue cheeses like Gorgonzola, chicken curry, or Hawaiian pizza.
