La Spinetta is one of Piedmont’s iconic wineries thanks to the hard work of Giuseppe Rivetti who founded the original winery at Castagnole Lanze in 1977. Giuseppe was inspired to establish the family’s own winery as a testament to his grandfather, Giovanni, who emigrated to Argentina to make his fortune and dreamed of returning home one day to make wine. La Spinetta sits at the heart of the Moscato d’Asti region which in the 1970s was best known for its dessert wines. Giuseppe’s son Giorgio recognized the region’s potential to make top quality red wines from the local Barbera and Nebbiolo grapes which have become the estate’s iconic wines. Il Nero di Casanova is crafted from 100% Sangiovese sourced from the family’s Casanova property in Tuscany and is aged in French oak barrels for 9 months before bottling. Fragrant notes of ripe red berries, coffee beans, mint and vanilla dominate on the nose while the first sip offers a silky smooth entry, full body and long finish seasoned with spice and luscious fruit flavours. Enjoy alongside classic Tuscan dishes like pappardelle pasta served with a rich wild boar ragu or a hearty ribollita stew.
