Cellar for up to 10 years. Decanting is optional, for up to 30 minutes before serving. With a history dating back to the 11th century, Chateau de Meursault has been a constant fixture of the Burgundy landscape, older than many of the trees and vineyards that line its fields. Nowadays, it is under the ownership of Olivier Halley. Along with manager Stephane Follin-Arbelet, he has spent the last 10 years overseeing the estate's transition to fully organic farming. The chateau is situated in the heart of the Meursault appellation. However, the estate owns 65 hectares of vineyard in all, spread across the most choice parcels of the Côte de Beaune region. This Bourgogne Pinot Noir is a blend, pieced together from the prolific vineyards of Savigny, and the robust plots of Pommard. Aromatic notes of ripe strawberry, raspberry and plum waft from the bottle, underpinned by subtle notes of baking spice, pepper and lilac. While the fruits came from 3 different plots, all were grown in stony soil, on exposed hilltops. High in acid, this wine shows stunningly fresh flavours on the palate, replete with notes of pulpy red berries, vanilla, bay leaf and hints of toasted nut. Its tannins are fine and well-structured, and it is worthy of some bottle ageing. Pair it with grilled meats, or a dish slathered in an umami gravy.
