Mercurey “Clos Rochette”is a distinctive, mineral-driven Chardonnay from one of Domaine Faiveley’s historic monopole vineyards in the Côte Chalonnaise. The parcel sits on compact, stony clay-limestone soils that are famously difficult to work—hence the name Rochette —yet these conditions produce white wines of remarkable richness, tension and purity. Hand-harvested fruit is gently pressed before undergoing a long, four-week fermentation. A portion of the wine (55%) is aged in French oak barrels, 25% of which are new, while the remainder matures in tank. After 16 months of ageing with regular bâtonnage, the wine emerges as an elegant, precise Chardonnay with impressive depth and freshness. Meet the producer Domaine Faiveley has been a family-run estate for over 180 years, now led by seventh-generation siblings Erwan and Eve Faiveley. Known for producing some of Burgundy’s most refined and age-worthy wines, the domaine combines deep-rooted tradition with modern innovation. With dedicated winemaking teams across the Côte d’Or and Côte Chalonnaise and a state-of-the-art winery in Mercurey, Faiveley focuses intensely on vineyard expression, crafting pure, terroir-driven wines that continue to elevate the estate’s already exceptional reputation. Production The grapes for Clos Rochette are harvested and sorted by hand before pressing in a pneumatic press to preserve delicacy and clarity. Fermentation takes place over four weeks, with 55% of the must fermented and aged in French oak barrels—including 25% new oak—to add subtle spice and texture. The remaining portion matures in stainless steel to maintain freshness and vibrancy. The wine rests for 16 months with careful lees stirring, integrating oak influence while keeping the mineral backbone intact. Tasting notes Clos Rochette opens with beautifully complex aromas of white flowers, lemon sherbet and gentle spice. The palate carries striking tension and energy, delivering citrus brightness alongside a smooth, weighted text
