In the glass, Kopke's 10 year old Tawny shows a warm golden hue with an amber edge. Aromas of dried fruit, spice, honey and gentle wood lead to a smooth, rounded palate with layers of dried fig and nut. The finish is long and elegant. Delicious with foie gras, nutty cheeses, chocolate desserts, or walnut-based pastries. Serve slightly chilled at 12–14°C. Kopke measures time through remarkable vintages. Each tawny is a blend of carefully aged wines, and the age on the label reflects the average age of that final blend - history preserved in every bottle. Hand-picked grapes are fermented in traditional lagares, with maceration to draw out colour and flavour. Once the right sweetness is reached, grape spirit is added, and the wine matures for years in oak casks, developing depth, spice and complexity.
