Drink now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant before serving. The Mendoza family have been winemakers for at least three generations, but it was only in 2008 that they decided to found a new winery in Argentina’s most prestigious wine region. This small boutique winery has a particularly strong track record for sustainable practices, including trying to recycle or reuse as much of its waste as possible and a state-of-the-art irrigation system that conserves water. La Mascota’s wines are crafted from the estate’s prime vineyards spread across the Mendoza wine region. This Malbec is made from hand-selected grapes that are grown in the high-altitude vineyards of the Uco Valley. After vinification the young wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, adding complexity and depth to its already rich flavor profile. Enticing notes of crushed wild berries, plums and cherries delight on the nose, along with gentle hints of smoke, vanilla and toasted spices. The first sip reveals a generous full body, velvety tannins, and a solid core of dark fruit which lingers on the tongue. Robust and powerful in nature, this Malbec is a great match for grilled red meats, hearty stews, or a generous charcuterie board.
