Drink it now or cellar for up to 5 years. No need to decant. Founded in 1950 by combining the vineyards of André Crochet and Lucien Picard, Lucien's grandparents, Domaine Lucien Crochet is located in Bué, a few kilometers west of Sancerre in the Loire Valley. Today, the estate covers approximately 35 hectares of vineyards, over two-thirds of which are planted with Sauvignon Blanc and the remainder with Pinot Noir. It is managed by Laurence, the wife of the late Gilles Crochet, son of founder Lucien. The Pinot Noir grapes are sourced from two different parcels, one with Oxfordian ‘caillotte’ soil and the other with Kimmeridgian marl. After manual harvesting, fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, and the finished wine ages on the lees in a mix of large oak barrels and tanks for six months before blending and bottling. In the glass, the Lucien Crochet Sancerre Rosé reveals a brilliant pale pink color and a fresh and fragrant aromatic profile, with initial notes of peach, citrus, and orange zest followed by spicy hints and light menthol touches. On the palate, it is juicy, fruity, and balanced. It has a distinctive and refreshing acidity and an elegant, citrusy finish. It is a food-friendly wine: try it as a summer aperitif with tomato-based appetizers, pasta primavera, herb roasted chicken, or grilled prawns.
