Royal Rioja Gran Reserva is a rich and elegant red wine from Rioja, Spain, made from 100% Tempranillo grapes sourced from Rioja Alta, Alavesa, and Oriental. Aged for a minimum of 30 months in new and second-year American and French oak barrels followed by 36 months in bottle, it shows a ruby red colour with russet hues, offering complex aromas of red fruit, spice, balsamic, leather, and dried fruit. The palate is elegant and structured, with robust, ripe tannins and a long, lingering finish. Meet the producer Bodegas Franco-Españolas was founded in 1890 by Bordeaux native Frederick Anglade Saurat. Located on the banks of the Ebro River, the winery has a rich history and has been in the hands of the Eguizábal family since 1984. Today, it is recognized as a benchmark in La Rioja for its quality wines and cultural contributions. Production Tempranillo grapes are carefully selected from the three Rioja sub-regions. The wine undergoes extended ageing in a combination of American and French oak barrels of medium toast, followed by additional bottle ageing, to develop complexity, depth, and refined tannins.
