4° Elemento Carmenère, Maipo Valley is a vibrant and expressive single-varietal Carmenère from the high-altitude slopes of Maipo Alto, offering bold fruit character, smooth tannins, and a distinctive sense of place shaped by the Andes. Meet the producer Viña Santa Ema is a family-owned winery based in Isla de Maipo, Chile, with a legacy of crafting wines that reflect the diversity and richness of the Maipo Valley. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, the estate combines traditional winemaking with modern techniques to produce wines of depth, balance, and regional authenticity. Production This Carmenère is sourced from hillside vineyards in Cerro Blanco, Pirque, planted between 700 and 1,000 metres above sea level in the heart of the Andes Mountains. The 2023 vintage saw above-average winter rainfall and cool temperatures, leading to uniform budburst. A warm December accelerated ripening, with harvest taking place from 9th February to 27th April. Grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks at 26°C with daily pump-overs, followed by a 7-day post-fermentation maceration. After pressing, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and was aged for 12 months in 5,000-litre foudres before bottling. Tasting notes Intense violet-red in colour, this Carmenère opens with aromas of maqui berries, blackberries, and fresh herbal notes, layered with balsamic and floral hints. The palate is juicy and fruit-forward, with smooth, rounded tannins and excellent freshness, delivering a balanced and satisfying finish. Food match Ideal with medium-spiced dishes, semi-soft cheeses, or toasted bread with vegetable spreads. Its fruit-driven profile and gentle structure make it a versatile companion at the table.
