Drink it now or cellar for up to 10 years. No need to decant, but best to open it half an hour before service. Prisoner Wine Company is a California winery founded in 2000 in Rutherford, Napa Valley. In its approximately 25 years of existence, this young, innovative and unconventional winery has immediately earned great success among critics and the public and some of its wines are considered cult. Their team of winemakers, led by Chrissy Wittmann, works closely with the best vine growers in the main wine regions of California to create wines of great quality and character. The company, which began production with a red blend, today makes a whole range of exceptional wines that include white and red by single variety and blends. The name of the company refers to the position against oppression and the prison system of the United States. And the label is inspired by a work by Francisco Goya, entitled Le Petit Prisonnier part of the series The Disasters of War. The Pinot Noir grapes (with a small addition of Syrah) come from select vineyards in the Russian River and Carneros. The wine has a broad aromatic profile and reveals a fruity bouquet with notes of cherry, cranberry and pomegranate, followed by hints of spice and herbs. The palate is fresh and mineral, with a medium body and soft tannins. The finish is long and slightly spicy. Try it with mushroom risotto or duck confit.
