Agro de Bazan Granbazan Don Alvaro de Bazan Albarino 2021
Granbazán Don Álvaro de Bazán is a prestigious single-vineyard Albariño produced from 100% estate-grown grapes cultivated in a single plot of the Finca Tremoedo vineyard in Vilanova de Arousa, Rías Baixas. This exceptional wine earned 96 points from Decanter in a recent tasting of Albariño vs Alvarinho, showcasing the pinnacle of what this celebrated Spanish white grape can achieve. Why You'll Love It This is premium Albariño at its finest—single-vineyard, from 40-year-old pergola-trained vines on granite soils, with an extraordinary 36 months lees ageing. The extended lees contact creates remarkable complexity and texture rarely found in Albariño. With 96 points from Decanter and indigenous yeast fermentation, this wine represents exceptional quality and age-worthiness from one of Rías Baixas' most respected producers. Meet the Producer Bodegas Granbazán is one of Rías Baixas' leading estates, dedicated to producing world-class Albariño that showcases the unique terroir of Galicia. The estate focuses on single-vineyard expressions and extended lees ageing to create wines of exceptional depth and longevity. Vineyard & Production Vines averaging 40 years old are pergola-trained in shallow granite soils in the Finca Tremoedo vineyard. The grapes are hand-harvested into 17kg crates to preserve integrity. After 12 hours contact with the skins, the free-run juice undergoes fermentation with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel. The wine is aged on fine lees for 36 months, developing remarkable complexity and texture. Tasting Notes Ripe citrus and orchard fruit aromas with a touch of honeysuckle. The palate is gently rounded, with lemon and stone fruit notes backed by appealing floral characters, leesy notes and a long mineral finish. Complex, textured, and elegant. Perfect Pairings Perfect with seafood, shellfish, grilled fish, octopus, scallops, or creamy risotto. Also excellent with Asian cuisine and aged cheeses. A wine for special occasions. Awards Decanter 96 Points
Saint-Romain 'Le Village', Edouard Delaunay 2023
The 2023 white wines from Delaunay are beautifully drinkable, offering an easy elegance. Unlike the larger, richer 2022 vintage, 2023 returns to a classic size with a well-balanced acidity, not too high or low. This vintage avoided the intense heat of 2020 and 2022, allowing for a more natural acidity that didn’t degrade during ripening. With record-high yields in both red and white, the wines display a lighter but more elegant profile compared to the previous year's concentration. In particular, the whites show an impressive balance of fresh acidity and racy minerality, with no chaptalisation needed. "A wine that expresses the freshness of higher altitudes (320-360 meters) with its limestone and small rock minerality. Aged in 30% new oak for 9 months, this wine is round, concentrated, and shows firm pear notes with a hint of vanilla. A wine that immediately speaks of its terroir." Our note Overall, the 2023 vintage is a welcome surprise, offering a balance of power and elegance. With a focus on terroir expression, the wines show great ageing potential and freshness, with no over-ripeness or dilution. The whites are bright, fresh, and pure, while the reds show refinement and elegance, with a good structure for future ageing. While some of the wines are still developing, there is much to look forward to in the coming years. Delaunay features as one of the Top 15 Négociants & Cooperatives in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2023 Special Report.
