Albis, Haras De Pirque 2020
Marchese Piero discovered this pristine estate in the heart of the Maipo Valley and began a joint venture in 2001 with the owners, before acquiring the whole property in 2017. Albis is the flagship wine from the estate, a beautifully expressive Cabernet with a dash of Chile’s signature Carménère. We've enjoyed several vintages of this charmer and it really offers cracking value for the table. It also has the structure, acidity and depth of fruit for extended cellaring, and the 2020 is the highest-scored release yet with 94 points from James Suckling.
Jane Eyre, Pinot Noir 2020
Jane's Antipodean Pinots offer a brilliant counterpoint to her Burgundies and we have both her Yarra Valley wine which has been a firm favourite in past years and now the new Tasmanian Pinot, from three vineyards in Tamar and Huon Valleys and made with Jim Chatto, the year after he won WINE magazine’s Winemaker of the Year 2019. These are both wonderfully ripe & expressive, fresh and elegant, with the Tazzie edition showing a touch more herbal piquancy, whilst the Yarra has deeper spice notes and warmer fruit. These are a real benchmarks for their respective regions and will impress even the most stalwart of red Burgundy lovers!
