Amarone Della Valpolicella Classico Biscardo 2022

Biscardo Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a rich, velvety and deeply characterful Amarone from one of the Veneto's most respected family estates, with over 150 years of winemaking history in Soave. Crafted using the traditional appassimento method, with grapes dried for 120 days to concentrate sugars, flavours and complexity, this is Amarone at its most authentic and rewarding. Why You'll Love It The Biscardo family have been making wine in Soave for over 150 years, now led by brothers Maurizio and Martino. Maurizio's long winemaking career has seen him consult for renowned wineries across Italy, and his expertise is evident in every aspect of this Amarone, from the careful selection of vineyard sites to the meticulous drying process and extended fermentation. Celebrated for irresistible drinkability, aromatic purity and exceptional value, this is a wine that over-delivers at its price point. Vineyard & Production Vineyards are located on the hills surrounding Verona at altitudes of 150 to 400 metres, on soils rich in limestone with a high calcareous content, including silt on loam rocks, compact red soil on basalt and compact red soil on Eocene limestone. Large stones dominate the topsoil, contributing to excellent drainage and vine health. Grapes are hand-harvested at dawn or dusk to protect them from daytime heat and placed in wooden crates before being transferred to special drying chambers for a 120-day appassimento process, during which they lose 30 to 45% of their weight, concentrating sugars and flavours while softening acidity and tannins. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures for 30 to 50 days, followed by ageing in stainless steel and then small oak barrels of 20 to 50 hectolitres. Tasting Notes Intense garnet red in colour with a rich, persistent bouquet of cherries. The palate is velvety and elegant, with notes of cherry, bitter almond and a characteristic touch of gentle bitterness that defines great Amarone. Long, complex and deeply satis

Savigny-Les-Beaune Les Bas Liards, Pierre Meurgey 2018

Pierre Meurgey, a fourth-generation winemaker, is now bottling remarkable wines under his own name and is just beginning to gain recognition. His father, Henri, was a highly respected courtier and oenologist in the Côte d'Or, admired by all growers. Pierre, known for crafting high-quality wines that are designed to age well, is definitely also a winemaker to watch. His Savigny-Les-Beaune Les Bas Liards has good structure, moderate tannins, and vibrant acidity, making it wonderful to enjoy now but also suitable for aging.
