Amrut Fusion Indian Single Malt Whisky 50%
Voted 3rd best whisky in the World by Jim Murray whisky Bible 2010. A strongly flavoured whisky which has gained many new advocates for the quality produced at Amrut distillery. Nose : Heavy, thicky oaked and complex: some curious barley sugar notes here shrouded in soft smoke. Big, but seductively gentle, too.. Taste : The delivery through controlled at first, is massive! Then more like confusion as that smoke on the nose turns into warming, full brown peat, but it far from gets its own way as a vague sherry trifle note(curious, seeing how there are no sherry butts involved) - the custard presumably is okay vanilla hammers home that barley - fruitness to make for a bit of a free for all; but for extra food measure the flavours develop into a really intense chocolate fudge middle which absolutely resonates through the palate; Finish : A slight struggle here as the mouthfeel gets a bit puffy here with the dry peat and oak; enough molassed sweetness to see the malt through to a satisfying end, though. Above all the spices, rather than lying down and accepting their fae, rise up and usher this extraordinary whisky to its exit;
Amrut Peated Indian Single Malt
Amrut Peated Indian single malt whisky is made from selected Indian barley grown at the feet of the Himalayas, nurtured by the waters flowing there and cultivated by old and traditional agricultural practices. It is carefully mashed and distilled in small batches to preserve the natural aroma and matured in oak barrels in a unique tropical condition,at an altitude of 3,000 feet above sea level at Bangalore, the garden city of India.To retain the natural characteristics of this oak aged Indian Malt Whisky, we do not chill filter, some haze may therefore be noticed in the product. Amrut presents this product as a humble tribute to the Indian farmer,who has grown this barley with care and affection with which he has tilled the soil Nose : Unusually dry peat; not dissimilar to peak reek absorbed by an old leather arm chair, a hint of citrus too; Taste : Despite the nose, the immediate sensation is one of being caressed by molassed sugar and then a ratching up of the peat notes. As they get more forceful, so the experience becomes that little bit drier and spicier, though not without the molasses refusing to give way; Finish : You can tell the quality of the distilate and the barrels it has been matured in by the crystalline depth to the finish. Everything is clear on the palate and the butterscotch vanillas wrap the phenols for a comfortable and clean finale
