Araldica Fazzoletto Piemonte Passito Barbera 2021
The Fazzoletto Barbera Passito is a rich, concentrated red wine from Piemonte DOC, inspired by the traditional Italian passito method. With its deep fruit character and smooth, rounded finish, it celebrates both Italian heritage and innovative winemaking. Each 6-bottle case contains a random selection of three distinctive label designs, reflecting the “Fazzoletto Rosso” worn by Italian resistance fighters during World War II. Meet the Producer Araldica Castelvero is Piemonte’s most forward-thinking co-operative, based in Castel Boglione at the heart of Barbera d’Asti. The winery is known for its modern approach, combining innovation with respect for traditional Piedmontese viticulture. Production This Passito is a rediscovery of an old Piedmontese tradition, using partially-dried Barbera grapes to enhance richness and concentration. Grapes are grown on southwest-facing slopes in the Monferrato hills at 250–400m altitude, in clay and limestone soils. About 20% of the Barbera grapes are left on the vine for nearly a month after the main harvest to sun-dry, then blended with fresh grapes before fermentation. This technique naturally sweetens and softens the wine while preserving vibrant acidity. Tasting Notes A fleshy and juicy red, showing aromas of sweet ripe plums and cherries. The palate is fruit-forward with cherry and wild plum flavours, balanced by fresh bramble acidity and a smooth, rounded finish. Food Pairing Ideal with roast poultry, game, rich stews, and hearty pasta dishes. Also works beautifully as a dessert wine with berry or chocolate-based desserts.
Villa Wolf Pinot Noir 2022
Villa Wolf Pinot Noir is a medium-bodied, approachable red wine from the Pfalz region of Germany. It shows bright black-cherry fruit with juicy, ripe flavours, complemented by a spicy mid-palate and a lingering finish. The wine is balanced with firm acidity and subtle earthy tannins, enhanced by gentle oak aging for depth and complexity. Meet the producer Villa Wolf is a prominent winery in the Pfalz, renowned for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines. The estate combines traditional winemaking with modern techniques to capture the distinct character of the region while maintaining freshness and structure in its wines. Production The grapes are 100% destemmed and undergo cold maceration before fermentation in stainless steel at 18–20°C. Half of the wine is matured for 15–18 months in French oak barriques (30% new) for depth and complexity, while the other half is kept in stainless steel to preserve freshness. Tasting notes Medium-bodied with bright black-cherry aromas, juicy ripe fruit on the palate, a spicy mid-palate, and a long, elegant finish. Subtle oak adds smoky and earthy nuances without overpowering the fruit. Food match Pairs well with roasted chicken, pork, grilled salmon, or lightly spiced vegetable dishes. Grape Pinot Noir 100%
