BARBARESCO Curra' Sottimano 2019
Released one year later than the other Barbarescos in this portfolio, the Sottimano 2019 Barbaresco Currá brings the intensity up a notch and not just in terms of dark fruit and cassis. The wine's mineral profile is more pronounced and, in careful moderation, so is the oak toast and spice delivery. There are more distinct elements here, all played forward with great intensity, that ultimately reach a place of excellent balance and endurance. Sadly, only 2,000 bottles emerged from this 1.6-hectare vineyard site in Neive.
CHACRA CHARDONNAY Bodega Chacra 2022
Aged for 11 months 65% in French oak barrels (15% new), 35% in amphorae. Certified biodynamic. Light straw with flecks of green. Very similar in style to the Mainqué 2022 in its subtle charms, but there's more depth, creaminess and the pretty floral note has been replaced by a gentle herby character. Spices and a touch of tahini – lees savour. Silky, textural, with masses of tension and energy. More fruit on the palate – pear and peach. Finishes with a herby, spicy sapidity weaving in and out of the fruit. Long and evolving. A serious – and seriously enjoyable – wine now, but with more to come.
