BAROLO Vecchie Viti di Castiglione Roccheviberti 2021
The 2021 Barolo del Comune di Castiglione Falletto Vecchie Viti is an attractive mid-weight yet deep offering. Wild red cherry, cedar, pipe tobacco, spice, cedar and dried flowers give the 2021 lovely aromatic presence to play off a core of red-toned fruit. This enjoyable, complete Barolo is very nicely done.
POMMARD Tavannes Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot 2020
(Pillot noted that this hit 15% alcohol in 2020). Here the expressive nose of cassis and black pinot liqueur plays right on the edge of perceptible volatile acidity. Exceptionally rich, even plush, middle weight flavors display unusually good power while coating the palate on the dusty, rustic and noticeably warm finale. This is atypical but it carries its elevated alcohol better than one might assume.
