Beaune 1er cru Clos des Fèves, Monopole, Domaine Chanson 2020
Full of ripe plummy fruit with hints of spice and gentle oak, the palate is reminiscent of a toasted teacake with blueberry jam, but the finish is succulent, juicy and well balanced.
POMMARD 1er Cru Rugiens Domaine Fernand & Laurent Pillot 2016
(from a .65 ha holding located in both Bas and Hauts that is apportioned roughly 50/50). A moderately reduced nose definitely needs air so if you’re going to try a bottle in the near-term, do aerate it well. The middle weight plus flavors possess better density and richness than the 2017 version along with equally evident minerality on the youthfully austere finish that flashes a touch of asperity but not really overt dryness. It’s not clear if this will eventually round out as I suspect that it will always have a mild edge to it.
