Beaune Premier Cru 'Les Sizies', Domaine de Montille 2021
Our visits to de Montille get (thankfully) longer each year as we continue to deepen our relationship with Etienne, Brian and the team. We can’t think of another address in Burgundy that has such strength in its domaine whites and Cote de Beaune reds (and the highly sought after Vosne Romanée ‘Malconsorts’ cherry on top) so we are delighted to carry a good selection from across their portfolio. The Les Sizies 2021 is built for aging and will reward patience with increased complexity and depth. Proper cellaring will allow the wine to develop gracefully over time.
Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Jacques Cacheux 2021
The 2021 Vosne-Romanée from Domaine Jacques Cacheux is a real treat for Pinot Noir lovers who appreciate elegance with depth. It’s medium-bodied but with enough concentration to feel substantial - juicy red fruit, soft berry compote and a touch of darker fruit mingle alongside gently firm tannins and a slice of minerality. Always on the lookout for growers under the radar, especially those with interesting parcels in Vosne-Romanée, and we were very impressed with Jacques Cacheux’ 2021 vintage. Patrice Cacheax, Jacques’ son, has run the domaine since 1994 helped by his son Charles. As an aside Charles’ sister Marianne is one half of the dynamic duo Pierre and Marianne Duroché and we can’t help thinking some of their successful maison wines might have fruit sourced from Cacheaux’ holdings...
