Berry Bros & Rudd 2010 Mannochmore Single Malt
Quite mineral, grassy and malty on the nose as the fruit notes emerge. There is a green edge of lime and kiwi, apple and a little peppery edge. The palate builds well with more in the way of lemon zest, buttered toast and white pepper. Lingering and balanced in a refined manner. Mannochmore located just south of Elgin was built in 1971 as an addition to the Glenlossie distillery site and intended to produce spirit for Diageo’s Haig blends in times of need.
Berry Bros & Rudd 2012 Ardmore Cask No. 9 11 Year Old 59.6%
The unique earthy wood smoke drifting out of the glass can only announce the arrival of Ardmore, one of the Highland’s most characterful drams. Ash, hessian, kippers and digestive biscuits mingle with great balance, with a hint of tobacco and fruit cake appearing after some time in the glass. The palate s tremendously smoky, yet still very subtle, with notes of cedar, smoked straw, pipe tobacco and lime zest. Woodland bonfire smoke lasts long on the palate. This is the perfect hill-walking dram – enjoy it at cask strength in gale force wind and rain.
