Berry Bros & Rudd Small Batch 2012 Blair Athol Single Malt Whisky
From Blair Athol Distillery, near Pitlochry, Perthshire. This is complex and subtle at the same time. Matured in refill hogsheads has allowed the distillate to shine through in this bottling. The nose shows stewed apple and a touch of spice, apple and vanilla. A wonderful full textured palate shows similar but with a nod of nuttiness and a small hint of wood smoke.
Torabhaig Sound of Sleat Single Malt Whisky
Torabhaig Sound of Sleat Single Malt Whisky is a distinctive expression from the Isle of Skye’s newest distillery, showcasing a harmonious balance of gentle peat smoke and coastal character. Made using traditional methods and matured in carefully selected casks, it reflects Torabhaig’s commitment to producing a modern yet authentically Highland style of whisky. The spirit carries a youthful vibrancy while already displaying impressive depth, shaped by the maritime climate and the distillery’s meticulous approach to fermentation and distillation. The aroma offers soft, earthy peat intertwined with fresh orchard fruit, malt sweetness and a subtle saline edge reminiscent of sea spray. On the palate it is smooth and well‑structured, delivering flavours of smoked barley, green apple, vanilla and light spice, supported by a clean mineral note that adds definition. The finish is long, gently smoky and slightly briny, leaving a satisfying warmth and a lingering hint of charred oak. This release is an excellent introduction to Torabhaig’s style, ideal for sipping neat or exploring as part of a coastal whisky flight.
