The nose opens with Glen Elgin’s trademark burnt marmalade notes, alongside some apples and pears. A little time in the glass brings forward notes of crème brûlée with spiced cream. The palate is muscular, reminding us of Glen Elgin’s traditional worm tubs, while a perfect balance of fruit and oak waltz over the tongue. With characterful liquid like this, it’s hard to fathom why Glen Elgin isn’t one of the biggest names in Scotch whisky.
GlenDronach Ode To The Dark PX Casks
As evening descends, darkness heralds the arrival of richer rewards. Deeper flavours emerge, inviting us to savour them slowly. This is an Ode to the Dark. Matured in exceptional Pedro Ximénez sherry casks and bottled at a high strength, this sumptuous expression from The Glendronach elevates richness to a sublime peak, with layers of flavour combining to create an indulgent experience. There is a symphony of aromas containing mocha, black cherry and dark chocolate. The palate is velvety smooth with espresso and creme caramel that fold into black grape and mint chocolate ganache.
