Black Cottage Marlborough Pinot Noir 2020
As a family run winery, sustainability is at the core of the Black Cottage ethos - they focus on sustainable, small-batch winemaking and are part of the Sustainable Winegrowers New Zealand programme. David Clouston - founder of the Black Cottage Winery - worked for a number of years at wineries in the USA, France, Spain and Chile before returning to his native Marlborough. He now lives in a wooden cottage in the Wairau Valley that is painted black, after which the winery is named. At the end of 2019 Black Cottage implemented light weight bottles, designed to reduce the carbon footprint of transportation.
Famille Guibert Combe Calcaire Rouge 2023
' In 1971, Veronique and Aime Guibert bought a Mas (farmhouse) and abandoned mill in the heart of a beautiful, wild valley through which flowed the Gassac river. After consulting Prof. Henri Enjalbert they planted vines in clearings in the middle of 4,000 hectares of forest - he was convinced they had the ''terroir'' to produce a Grand Cru of the future. The first vintage of their flagship red was produced in 1978 from roughly 80% Cabernet Sauvignon. By 1982, a respected French wine guide described Mas de Daumas Gassac as the Chateau Lafite of the Languedoc. The Rose Frizant was created in 1981, also from the younger Cabernet vines. Today, the children of the Guibert family manage the estate, storing their harvests in an old cellar underneath the original mill. The five brothers have continued to fine tune the Mas de Daumas Gassac's Grand Vin and broaden the range with varietal wines and blends that offer great value for money under their Moulin de Gassac label.
