Black Cottage Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2024
As a family run winery, sustainability is at the core of the Black Cottage ethos - they focus on sustainable, small-batch winemaking and are part of the Sustainable Winegrowers New Zealand programme. David Clouston - founder of the Black Cottage Winery - worked for a number of years at wineries in the USA, France, Spain and Chile before returning to his native Marlborough. He now lives in a wooden cottage in the Wairau Valley that is painted black, after which the winery is named. At the end of 2019 Black Cottage implemented lightweight bottles, designed to reduce the carbon footprint of transportation and from 2020 vintage, most wines are vegan friendly. The Sauvignon Blanc for this wine is sourced from Wairau and Awatere valleys giving a sophisticated, elegant style with mineral notes, fresh acidity and tropical fruit.
Villa Noria Les Colombiers Chardonnay 2023
Villa Noria Les Colombiers Chardonnay is a rich, expressive and beautifully textured white from the Pays d'Oc in southern France, crafted from a single vineyard at the foot of a volcanic hillside. Half aged in French oak and made with real winemaking ambition, this is a Chardonnay that punches well above its price point. Why You'll Love It Les Colombiers is a single vineyard site where mineral-rich volcanic soils and a Mediterranean climate combine to produce Chardonnay of exceptional depth and aromatic complexity. Warm days and cool nights allow for slow, even ripening, resulting in fruit with excellent balance and a genuine sense of place. Sustainable viticulture practices in the vineyard and thoughtful winemaking in the cellar, including thermovinification for vibrant fruit character and 50% French oak ageing for texture and spice, make this a wine of real distinction at a very accessible price. Vineyard & Production Sourced from the Les Colombiers single vineyard in Pays d'Oc, grown on mineral-rich volcanic soils under a Mediterranean climate. A portion of the wine undergoes thermovinification to extract vibrant fruit character, while another part sees short maceration to build texture. Around half of the wine is aged in French oak, adding subtle layers of toast and spice without overpowering the varietal expression. Tasting Notes Pale gold with green highlights. Inviting aromas of apricot, white peach and quince jelly, complemented by hints of fresh salted butter, vanilla and toasted brioche. Full-bodied and structured on the palate, with flavours of stone fruit, citrus zest and a touch of coffee and spice. Well-integrated acidity provides lift and balance, while the finish is long and savoury, developing beautifully in the glass. Perfect Pairings Excellent with grilled sea bass in lemon butter, roasted chicken with herbes de Provence, goat's cheese salad and coconut curry prawns. Also a strong companion to creamy pasta dishes and soft cheeses. Best served at 1
