Bodega El Reventón, Cru Artesano 2023

Together with Catena Zapata’s renowned winemaker Alejandro Vigil—her partner at El Enemigo—and Honest Grapes club member Gearóid Lane, Adrianna purchased the revered El Reventón vineyard from cult producer Comando G. The team has since expanded with La Reina, a 7-hectare estate in San Juan de la Nava, and an historic vineyard on the San Gregorio slopes once owned by the Landi family. Perched nearly 900 metres up in the Sierra de Gredos mountains overlooking Madrid, these sites offer ideal conditions for Garnacha (Grenache). The altitude, rocky soils and cool nights producing wines of remarkable finesse, more reminiscent of Chambolle-Musigny than Châteauneuf-du-Pape. From old bush vines rooted in granitic soils, the focus is firmly on freshness, aromatic complexity and texture rather than density or sweetness, though the 2023s still carry impressive depth and intensity. These debut releases of their flagship wines have been eagerly anticipated since our tasting with Adrianna at 67 Pall Mall last year. The La Reina Cru Artesano stands out as outstanding value at just £50 a bottle.

Nuits-Saint-Georges 'Le Village', Edouard Delaunay 2023

Est. delivery in 2026 Edouard Delaunay's 2023 reds are more refined, with less power than the previous years, offering more elegance and poise. The acidity is well-integrated, and the tannins are fine and soft, especially in the wines from the southern parts of Nuits-Saint-Georges (NSG), which do not include any whole bunches. The reds from 2023 show great potential for ageing, with enough structure to develop further while maintaining a fresh, layered character. "This flagship wine comes from vines over 50 years old. It is a blend of two vineyards from the southern part of NSG. The wine shows more blue fruit, dark cherry, and spices with good balance between acidity and tannins. The finish is smoky and coats the palate, though there is still some rusticity that will soften with age." Our note Overall, the 2023 vintage is a welcome surprise, offering a balance of power and elegance. With a focus on terroir expression, the wines show great ageing potential and freshness, with no over-ripeness or dilution. The whites are bright, fresh, and pure, while the reds show refinement and elegance, with a good structure for future ageing. While some of the wines are still developing, there is much to look forward to in the coming years. Delaunay features as one of the Top 15 Négociants & Cooperatives in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2023 Special Report.
