Boekenhoutskloof Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch 2021
Boekenhoutskloof Cabernet Sauvignon is a structured and expressive red wine from Stellenbosch, South Africa, showcasing the hallmark richness and elegance of the region’s Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine reflects Boekenhoutskloof’s meticulous approach to vineyard management and winemaking, emphasising varietal purity, balance, and refined oak integration. Meet the producer Boekenhoutskloof, located in the Franschhoek Valley and parts of Stellenbosch, is one of South Africa’s most respected estates. Renowned for producing bold, elegant wines with complexity and ageing potential, the winery combines traditional practices with innovative techniques to craft wines that are deeply expressive of their terroir. Production Grapes are hand-picked at optimal ripeness to ensure concentrated flavours and precise tannin structure. After careful sorting, fermentation takes place in small stainless steel tanks with temperature control to manage extraction. The wine undergoes post-fermentation maceration to build structure and texture, followed by maturation in French oak barrels—most of which are new or first-fill—for 18 months to integrate tannins and develop complexity. Tasting notes Deep ruby in colour, the nose is rich with aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, cassis, and subtle notes of cedar, graphite, and spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, with velvety tannins, balanced acidity, and layered flavours of ripe dark fruits, chocolate, and fine oak. The finish is long, elegant, and persistent. Food match Ideal with grilled or roasted red meats, lamb, game, or mature hard cheeses. Grape Cabernet Sauvignon 100%
Château Sénéjac, (Magnum) 2020
The wines of Sénéjac are characterised by a deep colour almost black in their young years. The very expressive nose exhales scents of black fruits and spices. In the mouth, Sénéjac presents a lot of fullness and intensity while remaining suave and civilised thanks to the smoothness of its tannins. As well as an impressive 93 points from James Suckling, Sénéjac scores 91 points for Jane Anson who, still reviewing for Decanter in 2021, included it in her shortlist of “ Best-value Bordeaux reds 2020 ” where it was comfortably one of the least expensive featured.
