Bollinger RD, - '2024 Release' 2008

Cases of 6 are presented in original wooden cases. One of our fastest selling wines in 2023 was the first disgorgement of Bollinger’s much anticipated R.D. 2008 – awarded 98+ points by The Wine Advocate’s William Kelley and the accolade " The finest R. D. of the decade ". The maison has now released a second, even later disgorgement with the wine having spent a further 11 months resting prior to release. The 2008 is a blend of 71% Pinot Noir and 29% Chardonnay: 90% of the fruit is from Grand Cru vineyards (and the remainder from Premier Crus) - mainly Ay and Verzenay for the Pinot Noir, and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger and Cramant for the Chardonnay. This latest disgorgement took place at the end of October 2023, a full year after the first release, adding even more complexity from a staggering 15 years on its lees. Only 3g dosage was added, ensuring this is firmly extra dry. Truly a Champagne for the ages, this is an exceptional expression of the top cuvée from one of the finest maisons in a vintage that will stand alongside the greatest of all time.

Taittinger, Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut, (Magnum) 2014

The 2014 Comtes de Champagne is Chardonnay at its best. Only the finest fruit made it in, so quantities are way down compared to 2013, but the quality is superb. It’s the last of a run of cooler vintages in Champagne and already being hailed as a must-have for Champagne lovers. Taittinger itself has a long backstory. Founded in 1734, it was taken on by Pierre Taittinger in 1931 after his WWI service in the region, and unusually for a big name, it’s still family-run today by Pierre’s great-grandchildren, Vitalie and Clovis. The cellars in Reims sit on 4th-century chalk caves that once belonged to Benedictine monks, and the deep cool conditions are spot-on for ageing Champagne slowly and gracefully. Comtes de Champagne is the jewel in the crown: crafted only in the best years, from the first pressings, and aged for a full decade deep underground before release. Presented in elegant antique-style bottles, it’s one of the most iconic Blanc de Blancs in Champagne.
