' Bolney Wine Estates is considered as one of the pioneers of the English wine industry, with 50 years of experience under its belt. Located in the heart of rural Sussex, the first vines were planted in 1972 by Rodney and Janet Pratt, the parents of Sam Linter who headed the family business until recently. Half a century later, the expert team there work throughout the year to ensure the vines are perfectly tended to yield the highest quality grapes. Bolney now produces an array of award-winning red, white, rose and sparkling English wines. The winery won UK Wine Producer of the Year in the International Wine and Spirit Competition in 2012. Since then, it was also presented with the title of Winery of the Year 2017 at the UK Wine Awards. The estate has continues to invest in specialist machinery and, in 2019, it opened a new state-of-the-art winery. With the ethos Guided by Nature since 1972, sustainability is at the heart of the winery's operations. Vineyard & Production Situated east of Maraekakaho in Hawke's Bay, the vineyard lies directly in the path of cool mountain air currents, moderated by the Ngaruroro River. This inland site sits on an ancient riverbed of silt loams layered over red metal soils, scattered with large, free-draining gravel stones. These conditions create a distinctive terroir that contributes both finesse and concentration to the wines. The Chardonnay is fermented exclusively with indigenous yeasts in French barriques, 27% new, with the remainder one to two years old. It then matures for 10 months in barrel, developing texture, complexity and balance. Tasting Notes This elegant Chardonnay displays a brilliant straw and lime-tinted hue.
