BOURGOGNE CÔTE D'OR BLANC Domaine Henri Germain 2023
From vines in Meursault. This is also ripe and fresh with its array of poached pear, just sliced apple, petrol and citrus confit scents. There is notably better volume and mid-palate density to the tension-filled flavors that culminate in a long, balanced and borderline tannic finale. This isn’t elegant but the quality offered in the context of what is typical for the genre is terrific. High recommended.
MARSANNAY Champ Salomon Domaine Derey Frères 2021
Moderately generous wood frames spicy and sauvage-scented aromas of plum and various dark berries. The delicious and vibrant if not especially dense lighter weight flavors possess good detail on the slightly austere and somewhat short finish that flirts with dryness. As the description suggests, this is presently pretty awkward and it’s not clear if this will eventually harmonize.
