Bourgogne Pinot Noir, Bachelet-Monnot (Magnum) 2023
A pretty, pale red, they look for freshness not tannins for this cuvee. Attractively floral with soft red fruit, very Pinot. Sweet on the palate with a note of menthol, wild strawberries and some structure. A lovely juicy style.
SAVIGNY LES BEAUNE 1er Cru Gravains Domaine Henri Germain 2021
(from a .57 ha parcel; Germain noted that there was no frost damage as they pruned it very late). A perfumed and very pretty nose reflects notes of plum, dark currant, violet and a touch of earth. There is excellent energy suffusing the beautifully detailed and lightly stony middleweight flavors that also conclude in a moderately austere, sneaky long and balanced finale. As is usually the case with a typical Gravains, this classically styled effort will need at least a few years of cellaring to unwind.
