BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO Riserva Fuligni 2016
Revisiting the stunning 2016 Riserva is a treat. Showing structure, vibrancy and elegance, it opens with enticing aromas of rose, Mediterranean herb and balsamic scents of eucalyptus. All about finesse, the elegant, full-bodied and focused palate features crushed raspberry, red cherry, licorice and tobacco accompanied by taut, refined tannins. It’s well balanced and vibrant, with bright acidity while a saline mineral note lends depth to the close. Still incredibly youthful at eight, this has years to go. What a gorgeous wine. MOREY SAINT DENIS 1er Cru Charmes Domaine Lignier-Michelot 2018
The 2018 Morey-Saint-Denis Charmes 1er Cru has a seductive nose with pure red berry fruit, crushed stone, sous-bois and light orange rind scents, very cohesive and beautifully integrated with the oak. It seems to blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, quite edgy, focused and fresh. Not quite as persistent as others, yet it exudes energy and complexity towards the finish. Nice one! Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.
