BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO Riserva Fuligni 2016
Revisiting the stunning 2016 Riserva is a treat. Showing structure, vibrancy and elegance, it opens with enticing aromas of rose, Mediterranean herb and balsamic scents of eucalyptus. All about finesse, the elegant, full-bodied and focused palate features crushed raspberry, red cherry, licorice and tobacco accompanied by taut, refined tannins. It’s well balanced and vibrant, with bright acidity while a saline mineral note lends depth to the close. Still incredibly youthful at eight, this has years to go. What a gorgeous wine. Drink 2026–2046. Abv: 14.5%
MOREY SAINT DENIS 1er Cru Les Chenevery Domaine Lignier-Michelot 2018
(80% whole cluster). Once again there is a plethora of floral elements adding a touch of elegance to the baked dark berry fruit and earth-scented nose, all of which is trimmed in soft wood nuances. The full-bodied, powerful and mouthcoating flavors deliver first-rate persistence on the impressively long finish that is also shaped by relatively fine-grained tannins. Good stuff though patience is once again suggested.
