BUGALUGS Barossa Shiraz Tim Smith Wines 2023
The 2023 Shiraz Bugalugs is welcoming and approachable, offering up fleshy aromas of blackberry and chocolate with oak sitting in the back pocket. This is creamy in texture and flavorsome with supple, integrated tannins. The 2023 is a well-priced porch pounder.
CHINON Les Granges Domaine Bernard Baudry 2023
The 2023 Les Granges comes from sandy alluvial soils close to the Vienne, and was vinified in stainless steel before moving into concrete. It largely remained in cuve at the time of my visit, but this is a tasting from a small-volume early bottling. It has a beautiful colour in the glass, concentrated and vibrant, which had me checking the vintage. A classically poised nose, filled with warm, dark but fresh fruit, cherry stone, blackcurrant and blackberry. The palate takes this and adds a more floral edge, producing a charming and lightly textured style, fresh with just the barest touch of tannin. Fine grained and absolutely joyous. Drink now. The alcohol on the label is 12%.
