Moko Black Pinot Noir 2022
A vibrant and expressive New Zealand Pinot Noir from Marlborough’s coastal vineyards. Part of one of our longest-standing ranges, MOKO celebrates both the ancient and modern aspects of New Zealand culture, capturing the country’s unique spirit in each bottle. Meet the producer Boutinot’s New Zealand wines are crafted from carefully selected vineyards across Marlborough’s diverse sub-regions, including the Awatere, Waihopai and Wairau Valleys. With a deep respect for site expression and varietal purity, the team combines attentive vineyard management with small-batch winemaking to produce wines of clarity, freshness and character. Production The fruit is sourced from maritime vineyards in Marlborough’s south-easterly Blind River Valley, with 87% from Rapaura Gravels and 13% from Omaka Valley clay soils. A mix of Pinot Noir clones (667, 777, 115, Abel and Clone 5) were used to add complexity. Yields were naturally low at around 7T/Ha, with green thinning carried out to ensure concentration. Harvesting took place over 10 days from late March to early April, with each parcel vinified separately in small open-top tanks. Fermentations were hand-plunged up to four times daily, and following pressing, wines were aged in a mix of stainless steel and French oak to complete malolactic fermentation and add subtle texture. Tasting notes Fresh coastal influences lend breezy finesse to the classic cranberry and redcurrant aromas. The palate shows brightness and energy, with juicy fruit supported by fine structure, making it both food-friendly and highly drinkable on its own. A touch of oak adds roundness and a gentle creamy note on the finish. Food match Perfect with delicate yet aromatic dishes such as duck dim sum, tempura vegetables or oriental-style salads.
