Castillo Perelada 5 Finques (Fincas) Reserva 2020

Castillo Perelada 5 Finques Reserva is a flagship red from one of Catalunya's most prestigious family estates — a producer with winemaking roots stretching back to the Middle Ages. Blending fruit from five distinct vineyards across DO Empðordà, from slate slopes to sandy plains and gravel, this is a wine of genuine complexity, personality, and a long, elegant finish. A SWA 2025 Silver medal winner. Why You'll Love It Perelada helped establish DO Empóordà in the 1960s and remains one of its defining producers. The estate's vineyards run from the Pyrenees down to the Mediterranean coast, planted on a remarkable diversity of soils that give the 5 Finques its layered character. Committed to sustainable agriculture, culturally engaged — the estate hosts a celebrated summer music festival — and producing wines of real ambition, Perelada is a producer worth knowing. Vineyard & Production Sourced from five vineyards between 40 and 150 metres above sea level, with an average vine age of 21 years. Soils range from slate and gravel to sandy plains and fluvial sediment, each contributing distinct flavours and aromatics. The wine is made with extended maceration and controlled fermentation at 24°C, then matured in a combination of American and Allier French oak before at least two years of bottle ageing prior to release. Tasting Notes Deep cherry-red in colour. Aromas of red fruits and spice on the nose, with balsamic hints and a subtle toasted background. The palate is fresh, well-structured, and balanced, with plentiful yet harmonious tannins and a long, elegant finish. A wine of great personality. Perfect Pairings Excellent with young and mature red meats, roast lamb, aged cheeses, and even dark chocolate. A versatile Reserva that works equally well at the dinner table or as a contemplative glass on its own. The Blend Garnacha Negra 36%, Cabernet Sauvignon 19%, other varieties 45% — DO Empóordà, Catalunya, Spain. Sustainable viticulture. American and French oak. 75cl bottle.

Papagiannakos Erythos 2022

Domaine Papagiannakos Erythos is a supple, fruit-driven red wine that brings together Greece's celebrated Agiorgitiko grape with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon . The result is a wine of genuine character, combining Mediterranean warmth with freshness and an approachable, food-friendly style. Meet the Producer Founded in 1919, Domaine Papagiannakos is one of Attica's most respected estates, situated in the Mesogaia plain just 30km from Athens. Now in its third generation, the family combines a deep respect for authentic Greek varieties with a modern, precision-led approach to winemaking, producing wines that are both terroir-driven and consistently excellent. Vineyard and Production The blend draws on old vines grown on clay soils in gently sloping vineyards at around 300m altitude. After a 5-day cold soak, fermentation lasts 15 days at controlled temperatures, with each variety vinified separately before blending. The wine then spends 6 months in new French oak barrels, adding structure and complexity while preserving the vibrant fruit at its core. Tasting Notes Aromas of ripe black and red fruits open the nose, with cassis and bramble richness leading to a finely structured, approachable palate. Silky tannins, subtle savoury notes, and a hint of liquorice on the finish are lifted by well-integrated oak. Grape Variety Agiorgitiko, Cabernet Sauvignon Perfect Pairings A versatile table wine, excellent with grilled lamb, slow-roasted beef, lamb-stuffed peppers, moussaka, or a hearty mezze spread. About the Region Attica is one of Greece's most historic wine regions, producing wines of real distinction from indigenous varieties with centuries of heritage.
