Catena Appellation Vista Flores Malbec 2023
Catena Appellation Vista Flores Malbec is a striking expression of high-altitude Malbec from one of Mendoza’s most celebrated subregions. Crafted by the Catena family—pioneers of Argentina’s modern wine renaissance—this wine reflects over a century of dedication to quality and innovation. Sourced from the historic Vista Flores vineyards, it captures the hallmark intensity, structure, and depth that define Malbecs from this exceptional terroir. Meet the Producer For more than 100 years, the Catena family has been at the forefront of Argentine winemaking. Known for their ground breaking work in high-altitude viticulture, they have redefined the potential of Malbec on the world stage. Their meticulous approach combines traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge research to create wines that express the unique identity of Mendoza’s diverse vineyards. Vineyards The Vista Flores Vineyard sits at 1,100 metres (3,608 feet) above sea level in the Uco Valley. Its soils are of alluvial origin—mainly loamy with a sublayer of rounded stones, composed of 80% sand, 10% clay, and 10% silt. This composition ensures excellent drainage, resulting in small, concentrated berries that produce wines of great colour, structure, and aromatic purity. Vinification The grapes undergo an extended cold maceration for 2–6 days at temperatures below 10ºC (50ºF) to extract aromatic complexity and colour. Fermentation lasts between 8–16 days, followed by a total maceration of up to 12 days to refine texture and balance. The wine is then matured for 11–13 months in 100% French oak barrels, 35% of which are new, adding subtle spice and elegance without overpowering the fruit. Tasting Notes Deep violet in colour, this Malbec opens with aromas of ripe blackberries, plum, and dark cherries, layered with hints of violet, cocoa, and spice from French oak ageing. The palate is rich and structured, with fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity that lead to a long, persistent finish. Food Match A perfect par

Bella Élégance is the flagship range of Quinta de Bella, crafted to reflect the unique character of its terroir through traditional sustainable viticulture. Nestled in the historic Dão region, in the village of Prime, parish of Fragosela, near Viseu, the estate covers approximately 70 hectares along the banks of the Dão River. Terroir Situated around 380 metres above sea level, the estate enjoys a distinctive microclimate influenced by the Dão River, offering excellent sun exposure and high-quality granitic sandy soils, locally known as “rotten granite” or “noble granite.” Vineyards are planted at high density with narrow spacing, combining careful human intervention with minimal herbicide use to preserve the natural richness of the land. Inspired by the traditional Bordeaux and Burgundy method “Les Quatre Façons,” this approach allows the vines to express the full complexity and character of the terroir.
