Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino 2019

Made from a blend of fruit from their 90 year old Angelica and 20 year old Nicasia vineyard. Aromas of cassis, blueberries and violets laid on earthy tones. The palate is gripping with notes of mocha, dark berries, spice and minerals. "This is made from over 100-year-old vineyards and offers blackberries with blue fruit and dark chocolate. Shows bark and black truffle undertones, too. The quality of the tannins is more precise and fine." James Suckling, 99 points The epic tale of the noble Malbec grape is like no other, and the label for Catena Zapata Malbec Argentino pays tribute to the variety’s history in France and its rise in Argentina. Four female figures embody different landmarks in the history of the grape. Eleanor of Aquitaine represents the birth of Malbec. She is a strong, Old World presence, lingering at the bridge in Cahors, where Malbec came into its own. Next, the Immigrant symbolizes the movement to the New World and the unknown explorers and adventurers who connected Europe with the Americas. Phylloxera personifies the death of Malbec in the Old World, which enabled its rebirth in the new. Finally, there is Bodega Catena Zapata, represented by Adrianna Catena, who depicts birth, earth, and motherhood, sharing the riches of the New World. Today, the Catena family’s fourth generation leads the high-altitude renaissance in Argentina. We are returning Malbec to the sky... where it belongs.

Pommard Premier Cru, Les Chaponnières, Domaine Launay-Horiot 2021

Domaine Launay-Horiot is consistent and over the past few vintages has culminated in something once again truly remarkable in 2021. This wine walks the fine line between classic Pommard structure and graceful delicacy. With a light-to-medium frame, it opens on brambly red fruit and earthy loam, wrapped in a peppery spice that lingers. The palate is honest and straightforward; sour cherry leads the way, followed by cereal and subtle earth notes, finishing with a gourmand flourish. Likened to Armand Rousseau by Neal Martin, Xavier Horiot fought an 11 year court battle with family members to keep the estate and reignite the work left by his beloved grandfather. In only his 7th vintage, this quietly spoken former fighter pilot only expresses his gratefulness for being able to farm his grandfather’s land.
