Catherine Marshall Chenin Blanc Fermented in Clay 2023
This Chenin Blanc is meticulously grown in the cool Elgin Valley, with a small portion sourced from old bush vines in Stellenbosch. The wine is fermented in hand-crafted clay amphorae and neutral oak, creating a beautifully layered profile with fresh yellow stone fruit, delicate white floral notes, and flinty, wet-stone tension that lends balance and structure. Vineyard & Terroir Sourced from the Kogelberg Biosphere and Stellenbosch, the vineyards provide a cool climate and diverse soils that enhance aromatic complexity and freshness. Winemaking After careful sorting, the grapes are partially crushed and fermented in clay amphorae and neutral oak. Partial malolactic fermentation in oak preserves the flinty, fresh character, while the amphora component retains vibrant acidity. The two components are blended after 11 months of maturation before bottling. Tasting Notes Bright yellow stone fruit aromas with floral accents and a flinty, mineral-driven palate. Elegant, balanced, and layered, with a fresh, harmonious finish. Food Pairing Pairs well with seafood, grilled chicken, light salads, and creamy vegetable dishes. Grape Variety Chenin Blanc Awards Tim Atkin MW: 95 pts Platter: 93 pts
Donnachiara, Aletheia Greco di Tufo Riserva DOCG 2021
Donnachiara produces Irpinia’s three DOCG wines, i.e. Fiano di Avellino, Taurasi and Greco di Tufo, as well as the traditional Aglianico and Falanghina wines. The estate is located in the province of Avellino, a stone’s throw away from Montefalcione, a town that was already powerful under the Etruscans and has a scythe (symbol of farm work) in the municipal coat of arms. Born in 2005, this modern winery boasts vineyards with ancient properties and almost all female management, including CEO Ilaria Petitto, who decided to dedicate herself to grape development. Ilaria is supported by her mother Chiara, the niece of Donna Chiara Mazzarelli Petitto, for whom this company is dedicated.
