CHABLIS Grand Cru Vaudésirs Domaine Raoul Gautherin 2023
The 2023 Chablis Vaudésirs Grand Cru is one of Gautherin's strongest cuvées and that is no different this year. It has a brilliant crystalline purity on the nose that outshines the Les Clos. This is razor-sharp, which is some achievement given the warmth of the summer. The palate is likewise built around a silver thread of acidity. VOLNAY 1er Cru Fremiets Domaine Comte Armand 2021
Here too there is a subtle but perceptible dollop of wood on the nose that is a bit more deeply pitched as well as noticeably spicier. There is excellent mid-palate density to the seductively rich, even suave and velvety, medium bodied flavors that conclude in a vaguely sweet, balanced and long finale. This presently lacks a bit of nuance for my taste though I suspect that it will add more with age as Frémiets typically does just that.
