Chapelle-Chambertin grand cru, Maison Roche de Bellene 2020
A gorgeous nose of coal and pressed violets, a ripe vapour, notes of mint, black cherry, creamy new wood and rich dark fruits. Ripe but cool. Full-bodied, the freshness is immediately apparant and balances a natural sweetness, and there are bags of dark cherry fruit flavours, a touch of black olive, and soft spices. The tannins are fine and svelte and help carry through to a fresh, tangy, layered and long finish.
MEURSAULT 1er Cru Genevrières Domaine Rémi Jobard 2019
Ripe, fresh and naturally exotic aromas of white and yellow orchard fruit, acacia and jasmine tea. The finer if less concentrated middle weight flavors brim with both minerality and a refreshing salinity on the elegant, indeed almost delicate, bone-dry and gorgeously persistent finish. Despite very much being a wine of finesse, this is also going to need at least a decade of cellaring to arrive at its peak.
